What is the most common problem you encounter when making video games?

The code doesn't work as intended.

@matt-likes-swords refusing to answer that definitely says yes. It's all good, bro. Every artist is or was hornyonmain atleast once in their artistic career, nothing to ashamed about.

What would you say are the most frustrating parts of the creative process, and what are the most satisfying? What kind of response(s) do you like receiving most?

I like seeing in reviews when people actually understand the design process I went through.

When you were developing the later EBF games like 3, 4, and 5, did you get inspiration from other games or creators on Newgrounds? Did you come up with everything yourself or use past projects or ideas that you haven't posted?

That kind of inspiration was more important in my early work, after that it was more of a case of refining the existing mechanics and style.

hey matt wil you make epic battle fantasy 6 ?

Would you say getting into game development was worth it, and do you intend to keep developing games?

It was worth it for me, but it seems like it's probably a lot harder these days with way more competition, so I wouldn't recommend it as a job.

Is Natalie based on someone you liked in the past?

Also, you like sushi?

Yeah, vaguely, and yeah.

Im so sorry for my annoying swords question posting twice. A real question i have is whats your thoughts on anna and natz being shipped?

How was the late 2000s early 2010s internet? Were there things specifically better than there are now? Especially when it came to your interests.

Everything online was made and curated by humans, which was pretty cool.
You could also break copyright law a lot more - like use popular music in your work.

@WahooYahooOhHoNo Oh mad aware. Last time I enjoyed using it was 2018.

What's your favorite video game genres aside from rpg's?

Platformers. I don't really play RPGs.

How did you keep your enthusiasm all the time? Its been so long since you put out your first game. You are also one of the longest-lived game dev I know.

I'm certainly not as enthusiastic as I used to be.

You got some advices for people who is starting out game development? What about animation? Also have you been drawing only on flash? Ive been curious cause ive always assumed you only draw on there ever since ive discovered your works

Yeah, it's all Flash.
Just finish and publish the projects you work on and see what the people (or algorithms in some cases) like.

Say, what got you on newgrounds in the first place, how'd you discover this beautiful site?

Badgers badgers badgers.

How did you first get the concept Epic Battle Fantasy and would there ever be a Epic Battle Fantasy 6?

What do you think of LGBT hcs of the characters?
Ex: Lance transmasc, Anna lesbian, Naty transfem etc
I've always wondered if you're bothered by this or not😭

Fans can do whatever they want, but I prefer fan made stuff that is more accurate to the canon.

Favorite color?

Hello matt. Been playing your games since I was 5! How did you find the place to publish your game and what are your future plan in the gaming industry? Also do you got any advice for those who wanted to delve into gaming industry?

You should make games for fun as a hobby until they start making money, and in most cases they won't.

@matt-likes-swords Yeah, EBF's status effect mechanics are really something special. I can think of a number of other RPGs that at least manage to make status effects _useful,_ but none where almost the entire combat system revolves around them. Only Atlus games come close, and not even they do fun stuff like getting an enemy wet so you can freeze them and then whack them for double damage with an attack that wets them again…

If I wanted to start looking into turning a flash game into a proper computer game without just remaking it in like Unity, what programs would I look into, or any good videos to get me started? (love your stuff, keep up awesome work)

Not sure what you mean. Flash works on Desktop and you can publish Flash games on Steam.
