Bullet Heaven 2 demo

Posted by matt-likes-swords - April 11th, 2014

Hey guys, I've released a short demo of what I've done so far, check it out.
Currently busy drawing all of the enemies, and you can see those here.

Seems alright, but I'm not a big authority on bullet-hells and this is leaning hard into the genre.

I think having so many gradients on the bullets, and having a odd shape for the ship like this, is really unfit for a game about tightly avoiding hitboxes.
Also I would've liked to damage that boss more somehow, it was a bit boring to just have one constant stream of bullets like that. Maybe if whirling around quickly could build a meter on how much damage I'm doing, then you could have some interesting play in daring people to weave around through bullets more- but I know that this is tightly building on existing bullet-hells and that's not a focus, so y'know, maybe just ignore me if ya like.

Good luck either way, man.

Yeah, I'm trying to stick to the style of other vertical shmups.

I'm thinking of powering up the player's weapons when they graze enemy bullets.

Pretty cool, i hope there will be some rad upgrades this time. Maybe for lance you can change the caliber or shape of the bullet to look more menacing when you upgrade his attack power.
Last upgrade : 500 Nitro Express
My god that would destroy his shoulder in a matter of seconds.

Anyways, looks cool dude.

I am not entirely sure I understand why the Game will be on mobile Platforms first, though I imagine it has something to do with being able to earn more that Way; and, while I do understand that as a practical Consideration, from a Mechanical Standpoint, this feels rather like a Step backwards from the original Bullet Heaven, which was far more enjoyable mechanically owing to the Access to different Weapons and the Ability to choose when to shoot and not to shoot. I also found myself noticing that the Projectiles disappear when the Character is hit (at least in Normal Mode), which I think likely a good Idea, since it will make new Players perhaps feel a little less-hopeless.

There appear to be, as always, exceedingly few technical Problems. I have encountered no Glitches, and, in my Browser, it runs consistently at about 59 Frames per Second.

Aesthetically, your Games seem to be improving. There is notably more Detail to the Art, and the Design for the Boss especially feels a little more refined than what was in the last Bullet Heaven. The Bullets, too, are interesting, perhaps to the Point of being Distracting, for the intricate Ways in which they fly out of the Boss.

Overall, I might say that I cautiously look forward to this, but, as I do not play Games on mobile Platforms (or have anything other than this Computer and ordinary Game Consoles that even play them), shall have to wait for something PC-Compatible.

Don't worry, the PC versions won't be stuck with the simple controls and single weapon.

Wasn't expecting a sequel to this but I'm Really looking forward to the final product. Any new characters joining the roster?

Android or iOS first?

I have to say so far it looks pretty good :) also just wondering are you also going to try to get the pc version on steam ?

Really good, I'm guessing that Bullet Heaven 2 is going to better than Bullet Heaven 1 and at the end the lagging is a bit different from the first in this demo it just stops then appears with whatever might happen, but still this is an awesome game!

You using a stage3D engine? It actually ran okay for me. ^^

Yeah, using Starling.

Looking nice. Runs smooth even on high settings on this crummy laptop. Only issue I've come across so far is that all the bullets disappear when you get hit. Not sure, it could just be a demo test thing, or something else like that, but it seems like a bug to me.

How many bullets are in heaven

mullet heaven

Looks good so far, Doesn't make my computer lag at all which is surprising considering the first does. Do you know who is going to do the music for it yet?
